High-End Home Electronics

Without a doubt, one of the most popular trends in the electronics industry has been the recent up swing in the home entertainment electronics sector.  When you discuss the concept of high-end home electronics, nothing hits closer to home than the home theater industry.  But you also have to consider the electronics industry in general since it is a global business.  It appears that the industry is in the midst of some significant changes in that it is experiencing some phenomenal growth.

Consumer electronics in general is always in a constant state of flux due to technological advancements with one product continually trying to outdo the other.  Digital television, educational toys, and portable media players are usually the center of attention anymore with the convergence of digital-based audio and video, as well as information technology the main cause.  And these advancements and changes in technology are not new having been going on for nearly two decades now.

The three key aspects that are driving the high-end home electronics industry are:

  • digitalization
  • miniaturization
  • mobility

It is no doubt that digitalization has transformed the home entertainment industry, therefore leading to the development of these high-end home electronics products.  These basically have paved the way for certain products, specifically digital devices such as camcorders, computer monitor, DVD player/recorder, still camera, and LCD TV’s.  Demand, pricing, and promotions management have been challenged even more by the fact that consumer electronics lifecycles are shrinking and prices are becoming more deflated all the time.

In the high-end home electronics industry, differentiation, flexibility, and innovation are the key elements to a company’s survival.  Ironically, these changes that we are experiencing in the home electronics industry in general are not being driven by the evolution of any particular product.  Instead, it is the fluctuation in the business industry models that are causing these changes.  The companies that are flexible enough to bend with the changes in trends as well as those that develop various forms of branding will be the ones that are the most likely to succeed.

This is very true with high-end home electronics, especially the home entertainment sector of the industry.  High-end home entertainment systems and the integration technology involved with these systems has been the focus especially where installing and maintaining systems that can cost upwards of $400,000 is concerned.  And then there is that instance where your home security system can get integrated with your home entertainment system.  There are now systems that control not only the home entertainment center but the heating and cooling, lighting, and security systems of homes (as well as the home entertainment system) all from one control panel.  If that isn’t a prime example of high-end home electronics then what is?

Then there is the lucrative or profit aspect of high-end home electronics where systems integration is concerned at the retail level.  A recent report regarding a company in Pittsburgh stated that in the five years since systems integration service has been offered to their customers that their sales have grown from $450,000 to nearly $2 million this last year.
